About Us

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to enhance student achievement in America, one community at a time, by cultivating a network of school board leaders who prioritize academic success, innovation, advocate for educational freedom, and empower parents in the decision-making process.

About NSBC

What started as a grassroots movement in 2020 to encourage and train parents to run for school boards has now grown into a nationwide effort for reform. Through our dedication to transforming K-12 public education, we have become the top resource for education reform-minded board members who want to prioritize students and families over bureaucracy. We are prepared and focused on empowering school board leaders who aim for academic success and involve parents in decision-making.

Our Commitment to Quality Education

At the National School Boards Coalition (NSBC), we believe that “All Means All.” Every student in America deserves access to a quality education that meets their unique learning needs, whether in public schools, private institutions, or homeschooling. We believe we can pave the way for individual student success by removing the limits on learning environments.

Our focus is to create bold leadership that prioritizes students, placing their needs above the institutional status quo and ingrained norms. Through our dedicated school board officials, we remain steadfast in holding school districts accountable to students and families.

We accomplish this by promoting effective local school board governance and equipping knowledgeable elected officials to develop policies and budgets that reflect the varied needs of the entire K-12 educational community. By building proactive partnerships among all stakeholders across different educational options, we ensure that families’ voices are central to the academic experience, enabling school board officials to meet the needs of local communities.

What We Do

At the National School Boards Coalition (NSBC), we are dedicated to enabling local school boards and championing the cause of quality education for all students. Here are ten key elements of our mission:

  1. National Umbrella Support Services
We provide a comprehensive support system that acts as a national umbrella for state chapters, enabling them to maintain autonomy while providing support resources and partnerships to ensure the K-12 system prioritizes students and counters other organizations that may not align with local communities.
  2. State Chapter Development
We establish strong state chapters with dedicated leadership, creating a network that promotes collaboration and resource sharing among school board officials nationwide.
  3. Advocating for Local Governance
Through state chapters, we advocate for local governance, ensuring that decisions are made at the community level by those who understand the unique needs of their students and families.
  4. Professional Development Opportunities
We offer extensive training programs tailored for school board officials to enhance their governance, policy-making, budgeting, and advocacy skills and ensure they are well-equipped to serve their communities.
  5. Mentorship Programs
Our knowledgeable mentors assist both new and experienced school board members by sharing valuable information and insights from their personal experiences to help them navigate the complexities of their roles..
  6. Advocacy for Educational Excellence
We advocate nationally while empowering state chapters to establish priorities and influence legislation directly affecting K-12 education within their state.
  7. Coalition Building for Unity
We build state coalitions that unite like-minded school board officials, allowing them to collaborate on shared challenges and amplify their voices in their elected roles..
  8. Resource Provision and Sharing
We offer resources, including a Professional Development Manual and on-demand training, to support school board officials’ ongoing education and professional development.
  9. Facilitation of Best Practices Exchange
We encourage state chapters to share innovative ideas and successful strategies with their school boards, enabling members to adopt best practices that improve educational outcomes.
  10. Meetings for Strategic Planning
We convene the Executive Board Committee quarterly, providing structured opportunities for dialogue and collaboration that shape the NSBC’s direction and reinforce our commitment to supporting school boards nationwide.

Through these key elements, the NSBC is committed to creating an educational environment where every student can thrive. By supporting state chapters and promoting local governance, we aim to establish a future where academic excellence is accessible to all.
